The Mill
It may not matter to anybody but me, but this old mill was actually used by my ancestors (as well as many others) more than 100 years ago. It's just a tourist attraction now, but at one time it was fully operative and, back then, many of the area residents carved their name into it's side. I wonder who it was that carved my family's name?
By the way, enjoy your free download! I plan to start giving those away every so often, so keep an eye out!*

Wooden Cathedral
I've made this photo viewable in slightly larger dimensions than I usually do because, in my opinion, anything smaller than this simply doesn't do it justice and I wanted you guys to get the full experience. There's a handful of photos that are particularly special to me, and I think I can definitely add this one to the list.

Branching Out
When you take pictures as much as I do, you rarely have the same favorite photo for long. I'm not saying this is my new favorite or anything, but I just think there's something special about this particular shot. It may not have the same effect on you, but it seems to have a particularly warm/rustic feel that is different from any other photos I've taken.

Ice on the Housetop
After about 2-3 weeks of snow being on the ground every single day, it's finally starting to thaw out. As beautiful as they are, I must admit that I won't be missing these icicles for a while.

Get Your Free Photo! - *Giveaway!*
It’s been nearly five months since my last giveaway and, with almost 5 times as many followers as I had back then, I figured it was time enough for me to have another one. The great thing about this giveaway is that, unlike many other contests you’ll see on the web, you won’t be entering for a mere chance to win a prize; in this giveaway everybody who participates is a winner. All you have to do is follow these steps:
- Using the below code to include my logo, post about this giveaway on your website or blog.
<center><a href=http://dakotas-nature-photos.blogspot.com/><img border="0" src="http://i.imgur.com/EfuUp.png" /></a></center>
- To show my appreciation for your support, you will receive a full-resolution, digital copy of the photo you choose sent to you via e-mail (complete step #1 first!). You may pick any one of the four photos above as your prize. Simply complete the below form and click “submit.”
It’s that simple! You don’t have to worry about cluttering your blog with a dozen different advertisements only to find out that you weren’t the lucky winner; you win no matter what! The photo you receive, while still copyrighted by me, may be printed for your own personal use and displayed in your home, saved as your PC’s desktop background, etc. It will not be watermarked or obscured in any way. (You can see larger versions of the available photos by clicking the appropriate category on the left sidebar.)
So what are you waiting for? You have until the end of this week (2/12 at midnight) to enter, but there’s no need to wait that long. Let the winning begin!
NOTE: This form is no longer active.

Glazed
We had a pretty bad ice-storm sweep through our area this winter and, as you can see, it left a pretty thick layer of ice on all our of our trees. Thankfully we didn't have to deal with any power-outages, though others in our area were not so fortunate.

Smiling Horizon
I took this picture back during the summer on a camping trip we took, but it took me this long to finally get around to uploading it. We had sat on top of a mountain for a good part of the evening, but the sun set behind us so I didn't get to get any good shots until we started making our way back to camp and passed this nice little lookout where I had a spectacular spot for snapping a final few shots.
