Oh Deer

Last month we headed down to our favorite campsite, and I was eager to put my new Nikon Coolpix L110 to the test. I was hopeful for some good pictures of a white-tailed deer, and wouldn't you know that the very the first time I set off with my camera one jumped right in front of me across the road. Obviously I was caught extremely off guard, and had no hope of being able to set up my tripod in time for a good shot. I  followed it to the edge of the woods, camera in-hand, and was able to get a few pictures before it bounded away deeper into the forest than I dared to venture. I walked away utterly disappointed in having missed such an ideal opportunity for some great shots. Before our trip was over, I had spent a good 30-45 minutes simply sitting against an old electrical pole waiting for another chance to photograph this beautiful animal; but I had no such luck.

I returned home disheartened at having no good deer pictures to share on my nature blog, but then as I began looking through them on the computer I realized that I did in fact walk away with a couple good deer photos after all. I suppose that 3 inch LCD screen on the back of my camera doesn't always give you the right impression of how a picture turned out. Anyway, here it is. It may not be spectacular, but  I was nonetheless happy with it.

What a moment that must have been! I don't think I've ever seen one of those.
